1. Choose the Right Carrier
- According to our team at Alpha Vets, a secure, well-ventilated hard-sided carrier is best for both rabbits and guinea pigs.
- Plastic carriers with a front-opening door or lift-off top are ideal, as they are sturdy, easy to clean, and less likely to collapse.
- Avoid cardboard boxes or fabric bags—they can be chewed through, become damp, or tip over in the car.
- For bonded pairs, it’s usually best to transport them together so they can comfort one another, but ensure there’s enough room for both animals to move comfortably.
2. Prepare the Carrier
- Line the base with a towel, vet bedding, or hay to stop them slipping.
- Add some of their usual hay or a favourite hidey-tunnel to make it feel familiar and safe.
