It’s all about The Community
October 3, 2021
The last couple of years have been tough all round. But there is one incredible, big positive that has emerged from all the gloom…
This is the realisation that what really matters is The Local – the places and people that are immediately around you; your community, your village, your neighbours, your clubs, your high street, your open spaces, your businesses. We have come to recognise that when it comes down to it, it is those closest to you whom you depend upon, who in turn rely on you, and who, when the chips are down, really matter.
It is the antidote to globalisation, the antithesis of corporatisation: in the wake of the restrictions on travel caused by the pandemic and the recent fuel problems we have rediscovered why our local community is the most precious resource we have. It is NOT parochialism, not small-minded – it is the rediscovery of life on the human scale.
After decades of neglecting our local shops, of travelling to out-of-town retail parks and feeding the trend towards bloated, one-in-every-town outlets, we have refreshed our awareness and our need for the personal, unique service that only small, local businesses and organisations can give. We are rejecting the universal blandness of the giant providers – identical and homogenised one-size-fits-all service whether you are in Weybridge or Wisconsin – and reinvesting in the owner-operated, individual venture. Whether that is a coffee van, a book shop, a greengrocers or a veterinary surgery: it’s the community business that counts.
It has always been a privilege to be part of our wonderful Molesey community. I have lived here for over twenty years, within a stone’s throw of my practice – and Molesey Vets has been here for very nearly fifty. We have always been deeply involved in everything local: most of our staff live in or close to Molesey, and it is a matter of fierce pride for us that we maintain our independence when so many vets have sold out to the big corporates. We will ALWAYS be independent, and we will always be Molesey’s personal practice. Serving the local community has always been our key philosophy, and although we have become vastly more capable, vastly better-equipped with the latest veterinary technology and fully operational 24-hours a day, we continue to be Molesey‘s local vets.
We rely on Molesey people and their pets, and we in turn heavily invest in Molesey, supporting many local groups, organisations and initiatives. From sporting clubs and youth groups, real grass-roots stuff, to threatened but essential local facilities and the beautiful and varied natural environment of Molesey itself, we try in a small way to help keep Molesey alive, and local, and personal. Because Molesey matters to us.
That’s why we are Molesey Vets.
