Dentistry facilities
Claygate Vets can help with your pet’s dentistry needs, with the latest pet dentistry equipment including ultrasonic descalers and dental polishing machines.
We ensure our Vets keep up to date with the latest techniques, so that we can take the best care of your pet’s oral health. We also like to educate pet owners on how to help keep their pet’s smile heathy at home.
Professional pet dental care
Your pet’s teeth and gums will likely need professional dental care a few times in their life. Pets eat, chew, and play using their mouths, so there’s a lot of ‘wear and tear’. A professional scale and polish will remove the harmful build-up of plaque and tartar that can lead to dental disease, and bring back the shine on those pearly whites.
At times, cats and dogs especially, need more extensive veterinary dental treatments including tooth extractions and root canal work.
As rabbits and some other small furries have teeth that grow continuously, our Vet Dentists have the equipment to file down and remove spurs when needed. Overgrown (usually a good fibrous diet is enough to stop this) and misshapen teeth can hinder your small pet’s ability to eat and this can become life-threatening very quickly. Sometimes their teeth may need to be trimmed or removed under general anaesthetic.

Preventative oral healthcare
Most cases of pet dental disease can be prevented, or at least minimised. This can be achieved through a combination of regular home cleaning and care, routine annual Vet Dentist checkups, and some professional intervention when needed.
Our experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses will be happy to show you how to clean your pet’s teeth at home, and talk you through the products available. Book a nurse appointment.
We also regularly write articles containing dental healthcare tips and other pet advice. You can have these delivered straight to your inbox each month when you sign up to our free pet advice care email newsletters.
